LT4 intake without the powder coating?

Is it possible to purchase an LT4 intake without the powder coating? Alternatively, has anyone successfully stripped the powder coating off?

The LT4 intake only comes in red, and from my understanding it was done up in red for identification purposes.

I've seen one get stripped. That is some sticky powder! Even had it on the bottom, if I remember correctly.

I've seen powder coating "flake" off very smooth metal surfaces, but I figured it would cling pretty well to that cast aluminum.

How did they strip it? Chemically?

bead blast it

Only if you aren't paying by the hour! Beads like to bounce off powder.

Sand blast it :D

My brother owns a powder coating company and he has a chemical which he dips the Intake in overnight that removes all the powder. He did it to both of my Cars LT4 intakes and redid one in Candy Blue and the other in Yellow.

Works fine, even if charged by the hour. :) Comes right off, just use clay or tape to seal any passages.

Check your local paint supply shop for a product called Tal-Strip. Trust me, it'll remove it in about 15 minutes. Every once in a while you'll have to slop some more on to a spot or two and then it's all gone. The cost is like $15/gal. and there are two versions available, 1 and 2, get 1.

Sand blasting may work but will take some time. If a powder has been applied properly it's a real HUGE PIA to remove. To remove all of the powder on an LT1 intake takes me about 30 minutes with a good blasting system.
