LT4 ED chain with what cover?

I did a search and posted another thread but still don't have an answer. I have a 93 LT1 twin turbo I'm doing for a 69 Camaro. The short block is together and I need a timing chain. I wanted to run the LT4 ED setup. I am NOT using the opti, I've converted to a rear distributor. I also have to keep the stock water pump because of front clearance issues, the electric won't fit.

Can I run the LT4ED with the stock 93 timing cover and water pump drive or is the shaft spline different? I know you change them to the late cover normally on this swap because the opti drive changed, but I'm not using that.

Thanks guys!

Jody

I believe you need to run the 95+ cover due to clearance, but don't quote me on that.

Should be fine. Only differences are for the opti in 95 and than the crank position sensor in 96-97 LT1s.

Thanks guys. They look to be about the same depth according to pics, but I wasn't sure. Obviously the OPTI drive is different on the cam gear which means you need the 95 cover, but since I'm not running it I should be fine. Just trying to get the right parts lined up without sending stuff back!

Thanks again.

Nothing different with the water pump, but you will have to find a way to close the opti drive hole (a freeze plug will probably do). There is an opti blockoff plate available for the 95 and later covers, but not for earlier ones.
