Lt383

I’m doing a 383 for a 97 Camaro.my question is what flywheel and balancer is used? Do you still use the 350 flywheel and balancer or do I need to buy ones for the 3.75 crank? In an old school small block you woul have to run a 400 flywheel and balancer for a 383,so just wanna make shur I get rite parts because I just took engine down to machine shop and my machinist wasn’t shur either.let me kno thanks.

The manufacturer of your new crankshaft will have the most reliable information on this.

Re: Lt383

Assuming you are doing an LT1 build, if are using a 1-piece rear main seal crankshaft, you need a flywheel with a specific balance weight to compensate for the missing piece of the end flange on the crank that allows the rear main seal to be installed. The front harmonic damper/pulley (not a “balancer”) is neutral balanced.

Ok so, it’s lt1 based yes.it a used crank n rods i bought out of another lt383 set up... I was reading up on so other posts, and read that all 86 and up 1 peice cranks are neutral balance in the front and external in the rear, meaning the stock flexplate that’s weighted and the stock pulley should be right for application??? Correct

Re: Lt383

You can actually do it either way, when I built my forged 383 I had my machine shop internally balance my rotating assembly and flywheel and I'm using a Fluidampr as well. Or you can leave it factory balanced neutral balanced at the front and external balanced at the rear.
