LT1's with non-stock cams...What is your MAX. RPM's

I am trying to get an idea of how high you guys are spinning your engine with your aftermarket cams. Many here like me want to ensure they are installing the right cam that suits there needs. I want the best cam with a 6k-6.2k shiftpoint.

Please post the following.
1. What aftermarket cam (specs would be nice)
2. Heads ported or not.
3. Maximum RPM you shift at for best performance.

Thanks

Well for most bolt on applications people at reving to 6000 to get the most power. I know my motor on the dyno suggests I should be shifting at 6,000. Anyways, any aftermarket cam is going to be reved higher whether it's 100rpm over stock or 1000rpms over stock is all dependent on the heads/cam like you said. But even a small cam like the crane 227 (210/224) wants to be spun to 6100 or 6200. My buddy here in town had it with ported heads and he was still pulling strong at 6200 rpms. Honestly if you dont want to rev your motor high, dont get a large cam. Stay under the hotcam or so (218/228 i believe). And even that one wants to rev to 6400 or so...

I have the cc503 cam. I didn't have any head porting done, they are just the stockers reconditioned. The guys at PCMforless set the shift points in my A4 for around 6.1-6.2k. The engine pulls really hard up top with no real loss in the lowend wchich is perfect for me because I drive the car to work when it is nice out.

If you are going to shift at 6-6200 max I would get the crane 227 cam, I had that cam in my car, it was a torque monster, and performed great too.

246/254 .613/.590 112 396cid GTP heads peak should be in the 65-68 range

I have the AI 190cc package the cam is mid 220s intake shifts commanded around 6000rpms, if the weather is good and the motor pulling really hard it will just barely hit 6400 during the 1-2 shift. 100K mile stock shortblock, put a mild ZZ3 cam in it at about 60-65K miles and did the AI package at 95K miles.

I run the XE 224/230 or CC503 and with the LE2 heads. I shift at 6400 and the car is still pulling hard on every shift.
