LT1 Rev Limiter Problems
Hi all,
I have a problem, any help greatly appreciated. I've got 95Z that I just recently had the tranny rebuilt in. Tranny runs great, but the problem is when I stomp it and I mean to the floor, it shoots straight to about 6200 to 6500 rpm. I'm not sure where the rev limiter is typically set, I would think higher, but at any rate needle shoots straight up. Once the limiter hits the car jerks until I lightly let off the gas and then it shifts. It's starting to be a pain in the you know what. I originally thought it was the TPS, but I'm not sure. I had the MAF descreened, which I have since put back in and it seemed to help. I am not sure what the problem is I just know it's still bad. If I accelerate with the pedal little more 3/4 to the floor the car shifts perfect at around 5200-5400. Again, any help appreciated. Thanks! Ken |
FWIW, stock rev limiter is 5750 and the needle is often a bit inaccurate

Thanks Matt,
Any idea why It's hitting the limiter and not shifting before hand but only when I slightly let off?? Thanks! Ken |
Has your PCM been reprogrammed at all? As noted above, the stock rev limiter setting is WELL below 6,200 - 6,500rpm - not sure about the A4 but the M6 is 5,805 in 1st gear and 5,886 in all other gears.

Hey Fred,
PCM hasn't been reprogrammed. I did think about having superchips do it though. Now that I think about it the limiter is kicking in where you guys are stating. It just hits it so fast it's hard to tell where the guage was actually at. Any ideas on this?? Thanks!Ken |
I know you just got your tranny rebuilt, but that happened to me about 2 months b4 my tranny blew.

Well, the tranny's under warranty and I already had it rechecked. I know for sure that's not the problem. Thanks...
