For what it is worth, I'd suggest removing the engine and installing the upgrades in a "clean environment." The LT1 can easily get debris in an oil line and cause oil starvation and spin a bearing. Pulling the engine is not that hard, just time consuming. Develop a plan, collect all the parts you need, find a good machine shop (engine builder) then start the wrenching. Talk to your engine builder for what parts work well together. This process will show you how much you might have to spend.

I've been reading a lot on this and another popular forum and have learned quite a bit in the last couple of weeks.

I'll be picking up a completely stock 97 tomorrow. Can't wait to start in on it. Going to keep it mostly stock, just a few changes for now like the throttle body bypass, skip shift eliminator, new trans mount and replacing the driver door window motor.

It's nice to have references like these from people that have been there, done that, so we don't have to make the same mistakes others have costing valuable time and money let alone frustration.

Eric, congrats on your Trans Am. Have fun!

I've always had good results making my own wires using a universal 90* Taylor Spiro set with the 180* boot ends. Used them on the opti (normal routing & over the valve covers), LTCC, 24x (same as LTCC) and the LS1.

I use Magnacore wife's and love them. I'm not a fan of the kits like Taylo wires....
