yes that would be the correct mounting location.

Sorry, don't know of anyone that has one installed.

I dunno if anyone mentioned this and it may not work for you, but I think msd makes a front drive distributor.
I know I saw one for a mopar, and I think one for a ford, but I dont exactly member one for a chevy. Maybe something to look into.
Actually come to think of it, i suppose it was msd that made it haha.. SOMEONE makes a front drive distributor. I see them in the national dragster all the time.

yeah actually that was brought up just a couple posts ago.
i was looking at that and as good of an idea as it first apeared to be its turns out to be just as pricey.
This is a notaion from MSD site on that very item.


NOTE: Must be used with a Jesel Camshaft Belt Drive Kit and an MSD Flying Magnet Crank Trigger.

Pro-Billet Front Drive Chevrolet Distributors
Small Block PN 8710*
Big Block PN 8720*
Will not fit on raised cam big blocks such as Mer lin, Donovan or Dart blocks.
