Lt1 Engine removal Q & A

So I recently pulled the lt1 in my 94 z28 from the top, while it was a pain with 2 people me and my dad got the job done. If anyone has any questions regarding LT1 removal from the top just reply here! I will look at this thread regularly and update you with a status on my motor currently at Steve Schmidt's engine shop, hopefully not too much is wrong lol.

Re: Lt1 Engine removal Q & A

Did you use the "Happy Hooker" device? Did you have to tear most of the motor down to the block before removal?

I'm starting my engine removal in a few weeks, and decided to go out the bottom, but......I'm always looking at both sides to the story.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Did you pull the transmission with it? Some say if you use the Happy Hooker lift plate it makes the job alot eaiser pulling the motor out the top. Here is a link to that TPiS, Inc. . I bought one used a few years ago. When I remove my engine and trans to upgrade to cam/head package and rebuild the trans. I may use that lift plate to go out the top. But lately have been leaning towards dropping it out the bottom. Still undecided.

Good luck with your motor.

I did mine from the top effortlessly and do not see what the fuss was about. Maybe pulling from the bottom is easier but I didn't have any problems getting my engine out or putting it back in. I think the only real plus side is when you pull from the bottom you don't need to unbolt the transmission. When I did mine I unbolted the transmission first - but that isn't even difficult.

If I ever pull this motor again to put in a stroker kit, I will do it from the top.

Did mine from the top too. I did have to pull my condensor though. Motor was getting too close and I thought I would damage it.

I did not use a happy hooker device.. I removed the motor in the shortblock configuartion...I used 2 head bolts 1 on each side with a chain and engine picker..had everything on the front ,Water pump, opti, timing cover, dampener. I did however have to remove the AIR pump..I did not pull the condenser I did not pull the trans
