Lt1 Cam and heads
Lt1 Cam and heads
ok, before i get the "do some searching" reply, i have searched and read but i'd like to get some real world opinions. I'm looking at maybe getting a cam and some heads, or a cam and some head work. Considering the mods in my sig what do you guys think would be a good cam for some mid 400rwhp numbers and solid 11sec runs? Like i said i was researching and have looked into llyod elliot and such, i'm just getting some opinions.
Thanks Chris
Thanks Chris
hmm
are you wanting a good solid daily driver that sounds good? if your gonna do head work i would go with the cc306 or gm 847 those two will definatley put you into the 400 hp range. however, im partial to the cc 503. i put it in my car with the factory heads and it sounds great and runs well. and it plays well with the stock bottom end rpm range. if you rev the 306 or 847 to their full potential on a stock bottom end you will be asking for trouble. period. i spun a rod bearing with the 503 but i had over 100,000. id say you should be able to hit 400 with the right supporting mods, a good dyno tune and a cc306 or a 847. with factory heads, a cc503, my listed and newest mods im hitting 370rwhp

The 847 will NOT break 400rwhp without heads and once you give it heads it will want to spin high enough to put the stock shortblock in jeopardy. Stock heads choke it so it does not need as much RPM with them but good heads will have it peaking over 6500 meaning with a good valvetrain you are going to need all the rpm capability of the pcm.
IMO your best bet would be to copy this setup. PROVEN and reliable.

Cam is smaller than the 847 duration wise.
MPH suggests this thing has low 11s in it at least with traction.

thanks for all the input. i was planning on getting some afr heads. I talked to thunder once about maybe getting a topend put together and they suggested while i got the cam and heads to put some arp rod bolts in it. it sounds like a plan. i have an extra lt1 at the shop with lower miles i may get the work done to then drop it in.

I am not talking all out race 383+ with professional port jobs that is a big investment there.
If it was me it would only be LE/AI to pick from. Mainly based off the results in recent years.
I would do that and Le2's/847 cam. I dont remember who but 6-8 months back someone put down 440/390 at the tire with that combo. He had all the supporting mods but regardless those are dam good numbers for the topend hes running.

ive seen what his porting can do with less CFM than lloyds or phils, but they too do good work. Its all personal preferance, and who makes you feel the msot comfortable.
