Low oil sensor

Do I need anything for the threads? I'm headed out to the auto parts store right now...

hey i need one of these since i broke the last one pullin the pan off for a rebulid. anyways mind if asked how much yours cost.

It was $40 at Star Auto Parts. I guess the dealer charges a lot more.

It's a sending unit, but not for the oil pressure. It's in the side of the pan and all it does is trigger the idiot light on the dash if your oil level gets too low.

I'll be putting it on tomorrow.

it is not the oil pressure sending unit but the level sensor two different things
the level sensor is in the oil pan near the bottom.

edit oops he beat me to the answer.

ahh ok, cause i had to change the sending unit on my camaro some time ago...and you are right, it's a cheap plastic looking thing... it cost me 37.00 at auto zone

It installs with a seal (looks like a metal washer with rubber in the middle).

Only when half of the oil sensor crumbles and breaks off inside the pan while you're trying to take it off... Like mine did today


Otherwise, if it doesn't fall apart, no. If you have the stock y-pipe, you may or may not need to remove it. It takes an 1 1/4" wrench.

I'm pretty sure that '96 and '97 cars don't have the seal.......

my 94 didnt have a seal and never leaked, but I think I did put thread sealer on it when i replaced it, just in case....

My 94 does not have the seal. I have read alot about the leaks but mine has never leaked.
