ok i have a 90k LT4 motor that i just want to freshen up and put in place of my lt1.

it was said to have low oil pressure, so i plan on replacing bearings, and rings. what else should i have done? rehone the cylinder walls, anything else i should do thats not too spendy? have the crank or pistons looked at? and what cost you think i am lookin at to do all of this?

would like to cam it but due to a budget im not sure if i can. just gettin your guys opinions on the first part first.

 

Have the cylinders honed for sure. You may even need to bore it depending on how it was treated. Otherwise I would go with arp rod bolts and anywhere else you can afford them.

You should be able to find a used cam for pretty cheap around here. Go with something smaller if you not planning on supporting mods. (headers, gear, cai, etc) you will only need some better springs and can add 1.6 rockers later on for more hp. But the cam should give quite a bit of gains. I wouldnt rebuild a lt1 without putting a cam in it unless your going to put tons of miles on it.

the crank may need to some work also, but it shouldnt be too bad. Lt1 cranks are the strongest part of the shortblock.

its an lt4.. should i replace those rockers? i thought they were 1.6's? i could be wrong. i will get springs to support whatever cam i choose, and would love to get headers but im saving for those.. or selling my car that dont run for part of those haha

 

Im not too sure if factory lt4's cam with 1.6rr's?? You are going to want to figure that out as you need them with a aftermarket cam.

If you cant afford headers I woundnt go too big on the cam. The car will be choked and not breathe properly.

 

1.6 ratio roller rockers cam standard on the LT4 engine. Headers can be put on later after you can afford them...it's way easier to add headers than to replace the cam after you have the money for headers...
