Lost gas mileage w/ cutout?
Lost gas mileage w/ cutout?
It appears since I've installed my cutout, my mileage has dropped to about 2/3 as efficient as it was before.. I'm guessing it's the knock sensor picking up false knock. The car kind of jolts forward and backward when accellerating at slow speeds(like say merging from a stop sign to 35mph not going over 2300rpms or so, it's more noticable when you accellerate slowly). Since my car is bone stock with no computer tune to change the A/F ratio, would it be safe to get a 3.9k ohm resistor to "trick" the car into thinking there is no knock? (aka delete the knock sensor out so it doesn't pull any timing but doesn't throw any codes either).
On a side note, guys with A4 trannies(and 3.23s), how high do you rev the engine in each gear when accellerating normally? I try to force it to shift at 2500rpms in first, 2200-2300 in second, and stay under 2000 after that.

Re: Lost gas mileage w/ cutout?
I recently installed a cutout as well and I didnt notice a change in gas mileage at all. Perhaps something else could be the culprit....maybe 02's, fuel filter, in need of a tune up etc....
Re: Lost gas mileage w/ cutout?
I have a feeling it could have been my driving style, I was taking it up a bit higher in the rpm range to hear the cutout sing
before I let it shift, so I'm going to put about 80 miles on the tank I just put in with the cutout open and see what happens.
