Looking for confirmation on timing chain options for 96 Lt1
I am doing a rebuild on a 96 LT1 and I will be running an elec waterpump.
I've heard people say that the following will work when eliminating the waterpump drive: Cloyes 9-3145 Is this confirmed? Are there any other roller options around the $100-120 price range? |
Re: Looking for confirmation on timing chain options for 96 Lt1
I'm starting to think the Cloyes Part No. 9-3157(single roller instead of double) might be a better choice to avoid lengthy timing cover modifications for the double roller.
Another reason is that I would like to retain the factory crankshaft position sensor. However, I believe the crank gear on the 3157 may be thicker than the factory set which would displace the sensor ring slightly. Does anyone know if the sensor still works with this timing set? Thanks in advance. |

The 3157 would keep you from having to do any cover mods and any difference in thickness (which I think would be small) may not bother the crank sensor enough to be a problem, but maybe someone has used one and knows for sure.

The "lengthy" timing chain cover modifications include grinding off a small tab and plugging the water pump drive - that's it.

I've been running an LT4 extreme duty or whatever they called it since 97 with no problems. I also have a Mezeire water pump that's been on since around '00.
