long turnover time. . .

i just satrted noticing i have to hold the key to start my car for like 10-15 seconds before it starts. Once its hot and hasnt sat for awhile it starts right up. i am wondering if this is fuel related, matbe clogged filter/puimp?

I assume your talking about the engine cranking for 10 to 15 seconds.

The next time it's cold enough to exhibit the problem, try this. Turn the key on but engine off. KOEO. Wait a few seconds and turn the key off. Then do KOEO again and repeat the process about 5 or 6 times. Then attempt to start the engine. If it starts quickly on that one try, you have proved the fuel is draining back toward the tank. The usual cause of that problem is a bad check ball in the fuel pump.

If it doesn't help your problem, let us know so we can tell you what else to look for.

Another way to check for a bad check valve is to check your fuel pressure by attaching a gauge to the fuel rail. The pressure should hold at 35 psi or so after the fuel pump shuts off (2 seconds).

Does it really take that many times to prime the fuel system? I always just tell people to run it KOEO like 2 or 3 times after they hear the pump quit spinning. Just checking :)

if when you turn the key to on and you dont hear the pump spin then it is most likely a fuel pump relay
