Long Tube to Mid's..Input
 
Well i have Hooker Lt's on my car now and well i hate them..the y-pipe hangs to low for my liking and they leak and im just fed up with them...i want to switch to middies....people tell me ill lose like 20hp if i go w. the mid's...ne ideas?..is it really that nuts..

Mods- CAI-Hooker Catback(hate that 2) 12 bolt w 4.11's

Perhaps you would want to consider Pacesetter longtubes? I have pacesetters on my car, and I had ZERO problems with clearance even when i had cats in my y-pipe. The only thing i ever scraped on with the cats was a floor hoist that sat a good 4-5" off the ground. Without cats i dont think ill ever scrape on anything.

to answer your question though i would estimate maybe 5-8hp loss dropping to mids.

you wont lose 20 hp...you'll lose a little but anything over stock is much better than stock. i run a 383 with pace setter mids...i love it. easy access to plugs/wires, great sound, clearance underneath, cheap headers...i could go on. you might lose 10hp, but you wont be able to tell, it's all in the head. you'd notice 40, but 10 isnt.

Do you want to sell your headers and y- pipe?? Are they ceramic??

As for them leaking, that is probably just a matter of keeping the bolts tight, which your giong to have with the mid lengths as well. I went from mids to long tubes. Nothing seemed to really change, no seat of the pants difference, no better plug clearance, no better ground clearance, nothing. Nothing got worse, but nothing better. So i would just stay with what you got. It would cost you more money for nothing better in my opinion.

I dont think you are going to loose that much power either by switching to mids... as mentioned above, the Pacesetter LTs might not be a bad idea, they use a slip fit design so they don't have those cumbersome flanges that drag the pavement in certain spots.

I have AS&M mids and I couldn't be any happier with them. As matter of fact, when I do my Procharged 383 here in about 2 years, I plan on using them again. They are necessary if your car is lowered!! Forget that scam about "losing" 20 HP. I ran the time in my sig with the listed mods in 2000' DA! Get that to around sea level and drop a few pounds and I'll probably hit low 13s.

Well thanks for the input..i think im gunna go with the mid's just because i like the clean stock look...thanks for the help guys..

I have flanges on my car and that isnt even a problem. My headers barely hang any lower than my subframe connectors... niether have ever scraped on anything. Pacesetters just tuck up that much better than Jet Hots.
