List of causes for no start

I was thinking it might not be a bad idea to have a list of things that can cause a no start condition. That way poor saps like me who can't find there problem can run down the list.

Most service manuals have these lists.
Basically does the car turn over..no check starter, battery.Do the lights dim when driving..alt going bad and now possibly dead alternator. Can you boost the car from another car to start it..yes..well then likely battery is bad.
So after you check bat,alt and starter then its things like fuse blown.Dead fuel pump..do you have gas in tank..yes /no..
Then you can pull plug and check for spark..no spark..dead coil likely or isc mabye. Those are usually most of the things.course if engine has totally blown up thrown a rod etc it might not start or turn over if its really fubared. But usually its little things.Bat and starter are high on the list.

Yeah I have a problem with starting right now:

PLEASE HELP!!!

This one is a real challenge. My car died on me just before I put it away for the winter. I had some small bogging at low rpm's for a couple of weeks before it died and wouldn't start.

I thought it was the opti going on me, so I changed it for a brand new one. I checked for spark and fuel and have both. So I even changed my PCM and wiring between the pcm & opti. I also changed my plugs and wires but still won't start. I then checked for compression and thats fine too.

The thing still won't start.

Anyone have any suggestions on what else I can try?

my car stopped running the other day because the coil wire was arcing on to something. just a thought. sounds liek your starter took a **** or the coiul wire is arcing, replace it with the stock wire and make sure its not arcing at all. if it isnt, then it may be your coil. just a thought. i hope i can help.

If you have spark, fuel and compression and it still won't start than the spark is occuring at the wrong time.

However my feeling is you aren't getting enough fuel. Try squirting fuel directly in the TB with the blades open and then try cranking it over. If it starts and shuts down then check your fuel pressure. I'll bet your fuel pump took a dump.

I was also thinking some sort of fuel problem for my car. Just because I seem to be getting everything else and the car just turns over like I am missing something. I did test for fuel pressure once got 0psi with a little under a 1/4 of a tank. I added about $10 worth and got 40psi.... the car still didn't start though.

Either I am an idiot or my car is not getting the proper amount of fuel or spark.

To add to the list, check engine grounds... I checked mine and found the ground strap from the engine was barely holding together. It actually broke when I took it off.

Nope I just tried it two seconds ago, I am not sure if I used enough gas though. Just a few squirts on each side of the tb. I did notice that the car seems to want to start when you add more gas into the tank(put some in at the same time). I almost had her going for a second after putting the gas in, the car just stumbled at around 400rpm and then died. I suppose the gas I sprayed in could have helped. What can I check in the fuel system?

See what the fuel pressure is when cranking it over. Get someone to squirt the fuel while someone else cranks it over and watch the fuel pressure the entire time.

Hey I'm getting that too, it seam like it wants to start when I stop turning the key to crank it over. It sputters a bit and dies...

The gas in the throttle body didn't help for me...
I'm trying to change the coil and module next, I'll let you know what happens..

You may want to consider the possibility of a clogged cat.
