Lifter Retainer Hardware

I misplaced the bolts and washers that hold down the lifter retainer spider thing. I went to the dealer and bought the bolts for $2 a peice but couldn't see spending $5 a peice on the washers. I don't really feel too comfortable throwing hardware store washers inside my engine. I was hoping to find hardened washers somewhere but haven't come across them yet. Anyone have any ideas or should i just spend the $20 and order the washers monday?

Re: Lifter Retainer Hardware

I remember mine had washers and in the parts manual it shows washers with a part number. I found the part number to what i need on the ARP website, 200-8585. Summit only carries the 10 pack of them, so and after paying for shipping I'm only going to save like 2.50. I guess i'll just order it from the dealer on monday, usually parts arrive the next day at the dealer.

Maybe I should just throw it in without washers.

Mine didn't have washers either, but the GM lifter package I purchased when replacing the lifters and retaining hardware came with bolts and washers; so I installed them.

If you got your heart set on using washers, just get some that are the right size and use a drop of blue Locktite on the threads of the bolts and it will be fine. Cheap hardened washers might crack, but mild steel would be OK. Don't make it more difficult than it is. It's not under any stress - you just don't want it to come loose.

Re: Lifter Retainer Hardware

I talked to Chad over at Golen and he confirmed that from the factory they don't use washers. I just get real paranoid about things sometimes. I have so much invested in this motor I don't want something as silly as a washer causing a problem. I'll throw them in with no washers and put some locktite on it.

Thanks everyone.
