LE2.5 finally complete!!
LE2.5 finally complete!!
okay, I finally got everything buttoned up tonight and got her started. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!! This has got to be the coolest thing ive ever done. the idle is awesome. and cant really tell you what full throttle feels like but i can definitely tell you that the power is there! I did have a few problems. It seems that when she warms up that there is a little bit of a misfire to her. I didnt notice that when she was cold. Ill have to look more into that. something seems to be sporadically turning on the SES light for just a few moments at a time. Also, special note: dont forget to ziptie your racetronix wiring harness away from the headers
. thank god i was by a gas station when it decided to blow the fuse for that one. ah well, cant go without something stupid happening. I also need to find a new wiring location for the fuel pump and the water pump. The altenator (which racetronix has you hook your fuel pump to) has a constant power supply even when the car is off. So thats not good. The mcleod street twin works like a dream. I still cant believe that its a performance clutch with how smooth it feels. and for anyone that enjoys running open headers, good night! these things are loud! no way i could keep it like this. i think my neighbors will kill me first! I could sit here talking about this thing all night....
anyways, I want to say thanks to LLoyd for the great port work on both the heads and the intake. I am very satisfied. A big thanks goes out to Bret also for getting me an awesome cam and getting me set up with the right valvetrain parts. thanks to Ion at madz28.com for a perfect starter tune. It seems dead on. and a big thanks to everyone on the board here who has given me great advice to all my (sometimes retarded) questions.
BTW- once everything is broken in good, ill get her on the dyno and see what she can run. thanks guys!

Re: LE2.5 finally complete!!
What do you mean you need to find a different wiring location for the fuel pump and water pump?
Yes your new fuel pump will have constant pwr off the alternator but i believe its also goes through a "relay" before acutally getting pwr to your pump....
Just get a 5 prong automotive relay to use for your water pump..Get your "trigger" for your water pump from your ignition(fuse box) which will allow your water pump to turn as soon as your key is turned to the "ON" position..
Glad everything went okay during the install!

Re: LE2.5 finally complete!!
I am glad that it is together and running.
Hopefully you can get some more of the bugs worked out and make the car more fun to drive. Let us know how it runs once you can talke it through the gears.
Once you get used to the power you currently have, you can get some data logs and let ion update teh tune and find a lil more. It is just tough to get this kinds set up EXACT on the first try. If you can get to teh track or dyno and have some hands on tuning done, they can find even more. Ion will iron out all of the big problems and get you close though.
There is only "so much" a tuner can do when he does not have the car in front of him and an endless amount of pulls to tweak everything.

97 RedSS, thanks for the good advice. I totally forgot about the fuel pump going through the relay. I had hooked up the water pump to the same location and it was constantly running, so my first thoughts were "crap, the fuel pump is probably running all the time, too." and ill check into the relay for the water pump.
A video will come. ill have to wait till it gets broken in a bit so that i can have a little fun in the video
.
Lloyd, i am completely understanding as far as the tunes go. i think Ion did an awesome job. I understand completely that it will take some more time and messing around with the motor more to get everything squared away perfectly. from a lot of what ive read over the last few months, tuning is key. that is whats going to take my car to the max and ill make it my personal goal to try to get some good tuning done to her so that i can reap the benefits of the cars full potential.
Bret, dont be tempting me with burnouts! its tough enough as it is. I got to break it in first (this is what i have to keep telling myself anytime i sit down behind the wheel). I wish they made pep talk cd's for your car. It would be like this, "okay, 482 miles. thats all itll take. just dont try racing the guy in the dodge truck. it doesnt matter if he has a hemi. 481 miles to go...."
later guys.

Re: LE2.5 finally complete!!
Good to hear you got it together!!
BTW, what makes up the LE 2.5?
Bret said the LE3 would probably be too much/ not the best choice for me due to the cam size.. If the 2.5 consisted of a slightly better port job then the 2 and a smaller cam then the 3 that should be what I am looking for!

Re: LE2.5 finally complete!!
yeah, you pretty much nailed it on the head. the package consists of the le3 head port and the le2 cam. it was a lot better package for what i was looking for. let me tell ya, its an awesome setup. especially considering that the car is going to be a semi-daily driver.

Dave,

Check that out.
Mainly heat cycle the springs, adjust the rockers after it's warmed up and then get some pressure on those rings to help them seat. Faster they seat the better you are.

Re: LE2.5 finally complete!!
since this was brought back up... as an update, just wanted to let everyone know that this thing is running perfect (knock on wood). the stumbling that i was having was due to not having full exhaust on. i dont recommend driving without exhaust to anyone. i had to pull all the plugs and clean them up due to the fact that the car was running way to rich. i now have the summit x-pipe with bullets that dump under the car. the cam is still awesome sounding with the xpipes and the pull this car has is unreal. its even better now that ive worked most of the bugs out and can actually enjoy driving it instead of working on it all the time.
