Exclamation Kooks y-pipe install problems... pics and a video inside...

I'm in the middle of my Kooks LT install. The headers themselves fit great, but something is seriously wrong with the Y-pipe.

I'm using stock motor mounts, a Kooks 6402S y-pipe, and Kooks 6400-1S headers. For test-fitting purposes the passenger-side header is firmly bolted in place at the header flange.

For those of you on broadband, I have a high-res, 55 second, 19mb video explaining the issue... click here. (Warning, I have the dumbest-sounding voice ever.)

Here's the basic problem: The rear part of the y-pipe that mates up to the catback points upwards, hitting the driveshaft, even with the rear suspension loaded (jackstands on the axle so the weight of the car is on the rearend). The end of the y-pipe is also in a goofy spot, below the driveshaft instead of next to it. Something has to be wrong with either the install or a mismatch in parts.

Anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

pics didn't show up but is it possible that the y-pipe is upside down?

See if ya can shorten the passengers side will it swing the out pipe around to line up.

Shortening the passenger side of the y-pipe is only going to move the entire assembly forward... the rear part will still be aimed upwards toward the driveshaft with almost no clearance.

My Kooks long tubes and the off-road y-pipe (no cats) all fit perfectly on my 97 Z28. So, I'm not sure why there is a problem? Check with George R at Kooks 866-586-5665 and he should help you out.

Is the slip-fit collector (passenger side) slid completely on until it stops? That could be causing the rear connection end of the y-pipe to be canted towards the drive shaft. That rear pipe shoud be running "exactly parallel" to the drive shaft and not pointed in like your pictures indicates. The picture of the y-pipe sections connected (just laying there) looks correct. Again, ensure the slip-fit on the passenger's is is completely slid on the flange.

I have the same setup. It looks like they welded that y-pipe up wrong. That short section that comes off the passenger side to connect into the drivers side of the y needs to be almost horizontal, not pointed down.

Cool Re: Kooks y-pipe install problems... pics and a video inside...

Scrap that Y-pipe and get some true duals!!!!!

No seriously call them up and tell them that somethings wrong. Maybe if you can give them some measurments they can see if something was fabbed wrong. Im sure a company like that is great to deal with.

Mine fit fine, too...I've been under my car trying to see what you could do to get it to fit...Is the driver's side slip fit pushed in all the way? How are your motor mounts? I would also call Kooks and see what they say...
