Knock-around Guys

A buddy of mine and I were having a debate last night on LT4 and LT1 knock sensors. He says that it's safe to add an LT4 knock sensor to a close to stock car. He has an exhaust, but no headers, cam, etc. etc. His only mods are a K&N CAI and Exhaust.

I say NOT to add it, because with a stock engine, you would want to be within a safe range and keep the stock knock sensor, just in case there is some detonation. I told him the only time he would want to switch to the LT4 knock sensor is if there's going to be some type of modification that could be causing more noise within the motor. I advised him that by adding the LT4 knock sensor to a stock motor he is risking some detonation and possible damage to his motor.

Obviously, he disagrees and questions what I'm saying. Who's right?

The knock sensor is located in the block and SHOULD NOT be changed to an LT4 knock sensor on a 93-95 engine.
You were probably reffering to an LT4 knock module, which I see nothing wrong with even on a stock car that may be getting some false knock from time to time....

The stock timing map is pretty agressive, and the retard table is pretty conservative.

Get LT1 edit and find a happy medium.

Yes, I'm referring to the one which plugs into the back of the PCM. NOT the one that plugs into the block.

Well i ordered mine but have yet to install it yet. Because i have about 2* to 5* of knock on three wot runs. I don't know if it is false or real knock. But i don't know how to find out. So i will probably just install it anyways.

Most people run some high octane unleaded race gas to see if they still get the knock or not.
