keyed hub install

I'm supposed to get my keyed hub today, but a friend of mine said I was dumb to order one because there is no "key" on the LT1 crankshaft end. I thought the keyed hub went over that little tiny nub at the end of the crankshaft. Am I wrong and should I go out and buy a "key"?

BTW, good luck finding a threaded rod that is 7/16"-fine thread to install a hub. no one has it. I'm still searching.

Yes, I would think that if you are installing a keyed hub, you would replace the cut-back LT1 key with a full (normal) key.

Try a nut/bolt supply house for a high grade threaded rod.

Almost any decent hardware store will have a stock of Woodruff keys in the section with nuts & bolts. You might need to buy a few to get the right size...

if I already put the timing cover back on and don't want to remove it, can I still replace the stock key? If so, how? (besides very carefully)

I don't see how you will get it out with the crank gear on.
