It's alive!!!

Well, the 93 I swapped a 94 engine in is finally alive! :D
Man, this was a long, painful project. Live and learn.... :(

So if anyone remembers my first post when the starter wouldn't even turn -- (you can find it here) it turned out that my attempt to convert the 93 to mass air was a failure. While the 93 and 94 harnesses are generally the same less the PCM connectors on the outside, they are really completely different. So sorry 93 guys, I had to learn this the hard way, but you cannot convert to a MAF setup/reflashable PCM "easily". A painless harness will be required, or major modifications to the factory harness.

Anyway, I ended up pulling the 94 harness off the engine yesterday and replacing it with the original 93 harness and ECM. This yielded a "cranking, but not starting" problem. (the post is here)
I pulled one of the wires today and used an old spark plug to test the spark. It was there.
Then, tonight, I pulled the fuel rail and injectors. Guess what? Every single one of them was bad/dead. (the engine was sitting in a garage for a few years)
I swapped the 22 lb/hr, 129K miles injectors from the 93 intake I still had laying around in a corner of the garage and it fired up right away! The starter didn't even finish the first turn and it was already running. I could not beleive it!
Anyway, it seems to be running well. I have lots of stuff to do still, but at least I know the engine is good and my 2 month warranty on it expires on Monday. :D

$hit dude thats a lotta work... and you did all that for another STOCK engine

Please tell me that the old engine was crap or the new one is modded!

In any case, good job with the engine swap, they are a major pita with our cars.

Yes, the old engine had a cracked rod and I picked up this car really cheap. The new engine isn't modded, but it has really low miles on it, so I'll be using this car as a daily driver for a while then most likely this winter, I'll put a cam in...

Either way, it's a long story but I don't regret it. It was a good learning experience and something to do on the weekends. :D

OK, makes sense now. Nice work, it must be nice to have a low mileage engine again....

Yep, it's SD for now... at least until I can find some 93 wiring diagrams. ;)

hum, have fun it didnt seem worth the time to me. Besides you already have the capabilities to burn new chips so why add a maf for a restriction ;)
