Installing Heads

I'm putting my motor back in this week and the heads are taking a little longer than expected. I was wondering how hard is it to put heads on in the engine bay. If it's really difficult then I'll just put of throwing my motor in until the heads are done.

thanks...

its about 18 times easier doign the heads when the engine is out

i would do it with the engine out.

How hard would it be to do a head swap with the engine already in the car? I'm thinking of doing a head swap next year after the cam goes in!

It's obviously going to be easier with the motor out of the car because of leaning over stuff, objects being in the way if the motor is in the car etc. But those aren't all that bad. The only thing that is a bitch is putting the coolant crossover tube on the back of the heads. Otherwise just make sure you have some swivel sockets or something when tightening the bolts down and you'll be ok.

Out of the car would be prefereable, but if you need to do the head install with the motor in the car don't sweat it.

It isnt hard. I done it with it in. With all the junk out the way you can reall work under there. The front radiator support makes for a very nice seat while you sit there and work. Whats even better is when you have somebody handy to hand you tools and such while your sitting there. Good luck.

with everything disassembled, i spent 1 hour on each head. i had a sore back, and had to climb in the engine bay its possible and not all that bad, there is lots of ppl that do head swaps w/ the engine in the car.
