Question Installing Headers on a Lowered '97 Camaro

Ok, I have a '97 camaro which is lowered. I have had a set of Hooker LT's in the garage for about a year now, and the passenger side cat just recently went bad, im asuming. Something inside it rattles like crazy at idle. So, now seems like as good as any time to replace my exhaust. From seeing other camaros, it looks like the LT's Hang down below where the stock exhaust hangs? Does anyone have LT's that can tell me how far below their stock exhaust they hang? Also, how about mid-lenth headers? and what brand seems to be the best to go with? I dont want to raise my car back up, so if need be, new headers will be the route i take, if needed. As far as the Cats, I have dual cats. Will it affect anything if I run the headers through a single cat? or should i run O2 sims? Any help or advice would be appriciated. Id like to do this right so i dont have to worry about anything for a while.

Here's a picture of FLP long tubes installed on my friends non-lowered 97 TA.

It would appear that a lowered car will be severly dragging pipes. Not good.
Get some SLP single cat headers or some RK Sports or Araizon speed and marine.
All of those are 1.75 primary headers with stock spec ground clearance.

I have RK Sport mid lengths and my car is 1.5" lower via Eibach Pro Kit.

It doesn't drag or make contact.

Thanks for the picture, puts things in perspective. Im low enough that I have a few scrapes on my frame, so, I dont think the LT's are going to work. Any opinions on Pace Setter headers? They are priced low, but is the quality low? WRD1972, you said about the arizona headers? They mid lenth or LTs? Or is there any LTS with stock spec ground clerance? Thanks for the help ya' all. its making things alot easier for me!!

All the ones I listed are mid-tubes.

Is the performance / power gain levels for the Mid-tubes the same as LTs, or are there any out there with about the same power gain?

Hooker LTs will drag like a mother and I hate mine with a passion. If you determined to get LTs then take a look at Pacesetters or Jethots. Jethots are identical to the Hookers but tuck up tighter from the pics Ive seen on here. The Pacesetters are a bargain header and seem to have great ground clearance.

Look at it this way everytime they drag they knock some more rust off of them.

The RK Sports are mids, and basically a copy of the Arizona Speed & Marine mid lengths. The reason a lot of people like them and give them credit is because of the fact that they have large 1.75" primary tubes, just like long tubes. A lot of mids and shortys have smaller primaries.

The RK Sports and AS&Ms won't make quite as much power, but they are pretty close to the long tubes. Well worth it; the perfect compromise between power and ground clearance IMO.

I think there are much more power difference between Mid and long tubes

I love my Jet Hots. They tuck up fantastic, even though I do hit speed bumps sometimes....I love them. The drivers side tucks up a little too much, and sits on the crossmember. It almost seems the heat melted a little hole it in it from sitting on a screw.

I don't have any pics, but I do have a video. It's a video of my exhaust, and you may be able to see the headers. http://home.comcast.net/~cubsfanme2/...ge/chicken.avi I bring the camera in about half way through the clip. The clearance looks smaller than it really is. You can sort of see how they tuck up nicely, the only visible part of my exhaust is my cutout.
