Install on ATI Super Damper
Whats the best way to install a ATI Super Damper??? the instructions say i have to get a tool.. Anyone install one of these
|
I installed one on my car. You will need a "balancer installation tool" I bought comp cams version from summit racing. also something that I was not expecting when I installed mine but was kind of a last minute headache, the stock washer that holds the HUB on is too small, you need a much larger washer, I was able to get a Mr. Gasket version from O'Reillys at the last minute, but recently upgraded to ARP. So you may want to get your hands on one of those before you get started on your install. I believe the part you need is the standard washer for a SBC... it comes with the bolt when you buy the bolt 7/16x20... I will repost when I have the part # for what I used.

the best way is to use an installer.
I didnt for mine thought. i have an aluminum hub, I set it on top of my propane heater till it rached 250* as measured with my heat gun and pushed it on. Then i tapped it the rest of the way with a dead blow and a block of wood. Motor is on the stand and was very easy. Might not be a good way if youretrying to install it in the car. Oh and the ATI should have come with a washer. I used an ARP 12pt SBC balancer bolt and washer... fit fine. |
If you have a 93, 94, or 95 LT1 (no crank reluctor), then don't forget to add the reluctor spacer provided by ATI. Or the damper will be just a bit out of line with your accessories. I know most are not as dense as me but I neglected to install that spacer even after reading the instruction. D*oh.
