im building a new motor
my lt1 in my 93' z/28 has 181k miles and has developed a slight tap. im hoping to tear the engine down this winter and rebuild it. i would like 350rwhp or more.
this is what i want to do: 355 ci with le1 heads/cam or something similar in size with stock or slightly higher compression, along with the full exhaust and cai im running right now. the car is my daily driver so it must be reliable and run good on pump gas. does this sound like a good plan? any suggestions of parts or anything else i should know about. im on a highschoolers budget so price is a big factor. the car is a m6 with 4:10 gears also. thanks for the help. |
if you're on a limited budget, and need this car to remain reliable, just rebuild it back to stock specifications if something is seriously wrong with it. do you know what's tapping yet?
|
Your budget 355 with LE1 heads/cam with the basic supporting components is going to set you back almost $5k just to begin with...
And that's not getting into the details. How's that highschooler budget lookin'? ;) |
If your budget is that tight, I would just find out what the tapping noise is, see if it is something minor, and get it repaired. Save up your money and worry about a good rebuild then.

the tap is minor as is. its not a huge deal im just wanting more hp to show my buddies ls1 whats up. i have full bolt ons, i got a short block priced at 1300, and the heads cam about 1200, so i dont see where that 5k number came from, as for the budget, i have about 4-5000 in the bank and more to come by winter. so my question still stands as : this sound like a good streetable combo to you guys? any tips or parts youd reccomend? thanks
