ignition problems, key doesn't turn

I've been having ignition problems. I wasn't getting any voltage to my theft detterent relay so i decided to try replacing the ignition switch. the car still doesn't start but now the key doesn't turn.

Is there a way i can check to see if the ignition switch is getting any voltage?
what could be causing my key to lock up? when the column isn't in the car it turns fine, when i install it the key will go to start but once i turn it to the lock position it stops turning.

thank you
jeremy

It does not make much sense that it does not turn when installed in the car, when in turns ok when out of the car. Maybe your steering wheel position is binding against the lock plate?? Is there any left/right pressure on the steering wheel?

when i put the column in i can go from lock to run to start. i can then go from run to start without it locking up but as soon as i turn the key back to lock it locks up and i can't turn it at all. when i remove the console it remains locked up until i remove and then reinstall the switch, then it turns again.
do you know which wire is the positive for the ignition switch?
