IAC interchange?

I know the 93 IAC uses a different plug (square 4 prong) Can I use another IAC, and switch the pigtail? What other vehicles/motors can I get one from?

Re: IAC interchange?

You are correct that the 93 IAC is the old style with the square 4-pin connector. You can swap out to a IAC from a 94-97 F-body, but you will need the proper throttle body setup for it to work. For the 93 style, the housing of the IAC is threaded and screws into the mount on the throttle body and the 94-97 style has two bolts that hold it in place.

The newer style IAC uses a flat 4-pin connector with the same pinouts as the 93 model. The IAC harness is available from Autozone brand new for about $45. It is made by Wells Mfg and the wells pigtail number is 447.

Just for reference, the pigtail for the 93 style IAC is wells part number 239, which currently is contradictory to what the Autozone system states, as they have the same harness listed for the 93 as they do for the 94-97.

well, since I have $300+ wrapped up in a TB, that won't happen. Can I use any other model/engine IAC for the 93 specific set-up?

Re: IAC interchange?

I don't know of any others that will just mount like the 93 style. Why do you want to change?

I think mine might be bad, but want another to test. Can't justify buying a new one if this one is ok. It's not throwing any codes, but the idle is crap, the adjustment screw does nothing, and the thing hisses like crazy, and idles fine if I put my finger in the IAC hole in the BBK TB

Re: IAC interchange?

What is your TPS voltage and IAC counts at idle?

I just bought a brand new 93 style IAC and it was like $60 shipped from Dal, so it's not really that bad.

Didn't test the TPS or IAC yet, first thing I tested was the MAP, and it was bad, so I replaced it and it appeared fixed for a while. Do I need to strip back some wire to expose it to put the meter probes on?
$60 is WAAY more than I care to spend on this thing. I'm trying to sell it because I need $$ and have no time to play with it!

Re: IAC interchange?

You can't really check the IAC without a scanner, but TPS voltage can be probed.

Wll, how do I scan it, I can't find anyone who can do a OBDI car. It's like a pre 96 isn't worth fixing LOL
TPS...peel back some plastic to reveal wire to probe?
