I Think I have a bad FPR or leaky injectors

Here is why. I bought a fuel pressure tester, hooked it up. While it primes it reads 48 psi, when its done priming 41 psi. When i crank, it goes back to 47 psi. When I shut the ignition off, it stays right at 40 psi, this goes the same when I pull the vaccum off the FPR, it makes no diff.
Now, the car will almost not start, smells as if flooded. I will crank it over about 3 times, then it will sputter and die, Crank again, a little more firing, then die, all while blowing out foul smelling light blue/dark brown raw exhaust. After doing this for awhile, it will fire and hold about 6 cylinders, but only because I have my foot on the gas. After holding it like that for about 10 seconds at 3500 rpm, all 8 will fire, then it will stop blowing out unburnt fuel, and run/idle fine. While running, it has about 47 psi, under full throttle, about 44 psi. So I think something between the FPR and the injectors is my problem, its always flooded it seems. The fuel pump seems to be fine because I have good fuel pressure all around. Any suggestions? This car is a 94 Z A4 with a rebuilt 355, hotcam kit, and all the boltons, and on the stock tune. The entire ignition system has been replaced, as well as the fuel filter etc. Thanks for all the help..

If fuel pressure is dropping under WOT then you have a problem with the regulator or the pump.
I believe I have the same problem but not as bad as yours, mine seems to start and run fine but I think I am losing fuel pressure up top. Mine holds 40 psi after prime and drops 3 to4 when I start it, goes up to 46 to 47 when I pull the vacuum off. I need to tape it to my windshield and make sure I am dropping at WOT it should stay steady or even increase slightly at WOT not drop.

But would a bad FPR cause it to flood between start ups?

If its leaking past the diaphram possibly.
You may have more than one problem there.
Injectors may be leaking too.
but I would try the pump and FPR first.

I changed the FPR, it helped, but the car still does it. I checked the fuel pressure again, and it was fine. I am guessing it just needs a tune, its running so rich right now anyways.
