I need suspension help

I am in the middle of gathering suspension parts for a winter project. I ordered a bunch of adjustable spohn stuff and I will be ordering HAL QA1 shocks, but I am not sure what springs to get. I have Hooker LTs so I am not sure the car can handle too much of a drop. I am not sure about Drag Launch springs because I don't see much track time (It's 2 hours away). How do Drag springs affect handling? I am looking for an all around fun car to drive. Is there a stiff lowering spring that doesn't lower the car too much?

What are your specific goals? How low, how hard and why?
What other "stuff" are you using and why?

You could use coil overs and adjust to the height you need.

I ordered a panhard bar, LCAs, front and rear sway bars. I also plan on ordering a Torque arm. I currently have Hooker LTs, 3200 vigilante, Subframe connectors, NX 100 shot, other little things. Future plans include Heads/cam. I want versatile car that can hold its own going straight and turning.

I don't know anything about coilovers. How do they work? Who makes them? How much do they cost?

I agree.

Throwing parts at a suspension without a coordinated plan is probably a worse idea than randomly throwing parts at an engine to make it "better". There's a good chance you'll make it worse.

If you purchased other than black parts, the new stuff will at least look different. There are a bunch of people that like the bling-bling effect whether the parts work or not. No flame intended; that's not you, IMO.

Spending your suspension money on really good tires and maybe a set of Eibach or H&R springs (about 1-1/4 inch lowering), and maybe shocks would be my choice of where to modify. You'd improve the cornerning (tires mostly) and looks. If you drag, get a pair of 16 x 8 F-body wheels and put DRs on them for the strip. I doubt you'll need the LCAs or torque arm; a whole bunch of guys are running quick without them.

My highly opinionated $.02

the lcas and stuff i was referring to keep correct supsension and driveshaft geometry, i would think lowering the car can adversely affect that.

The drag springs are stiffer and they make the ride feel firmer...but with the QA-1's I wouldn't worry about the Springs....the Hal springs are awsome. THier so adjustable you can take them from track to Cricle in a second. I used Drag springs in the front with the Circle track springs in the rear. Other than reducing brake dive a bit there's no noticable difference than when I had the Circle track springs up front. ALso don't worry about the ride height either if you ahve LT's you can set the QA-1's lower of higher how ever you want. THey allow you to go stock height or highr it's up to you and the spanner wrench.

You don't need the LCA's even if lowered.

MY suggestion is to call Sam Strano at http://www.stranoparts.com and talk to him. He's the F-Body suspension expert. It will be the best call you've ever made for your car.
