I might buy a 93 pace car, $11,000 need advise...

I am going to look at this car on thursday morning and need to know what i have to look out for. It is a 93 Camaro pace car with 17,000 miles and hes selling it for $11,000 That price seems cheap, i saw the car this weekend at chevy vette fest in chicago and it looked pretty darn good. What i am asking is what is the main things i need to check out? i have a 94 Camaro(in sig) but im gonna sell that and sell the mods i have on it if i get this camaro. Thanks

Well, if you've already got some familiarity with the LT1 then you should know what to look out for. On a low mileage car like that, you may want to take a good look at the condition of the hoses. That's a almost eleven year old car with 17000 miles on it. Not a lot. Nice find!! :thumb:

$11.000 ??? That seems really steep to me. They were selling one here for like $5k dunno how many miles though, but are they that rare/valueable?

17k mi? i would still take it to a shop and have it looked over thoughly, my local Chevy dealer charges only like $40 to do that! mean for $11k ur best bet is 2 have it checked. Also run Carfax or something like that on the vin ( i got burned on a ricer that was wrecked and didnt know about it until after bought it)

That price seems cheap??? I think it sounds pretty steep. I went to Edmunds.com and plugged in the info on this car , mileage, excellent condition and selected all available options and the highest price they list is dealer retail of just over $6K. They don't have an option for the pace car package but I can't imagine thats worth another $5k. Nothing personal but I would keep your 94 if I were you.

It all depends on what you want. If the pace car is something you have wanted than 11,000 isn't a bad price for a 17,000 mile car. It is worth more than the plain jane z. I have always like the 93z pace cars. In comparison though i just bought a 94z28 convertible with only 9000 miles on it for 9800.
good luck

I agree with Gregg. Sounds like too much for that car. I don't think the pace cars were anything special except some graphics and interior parts. Our cars just depreciate too much. Personally, i wouldn't pay over 6K. But that's just my opinion.

I think its stupid how our cars depreciate so much, we are now in the same price range as an 89 Mustang LX, our cars are 20 times the cars those will ever be.

While I like special edition cars, I don't see paying the premium for a sticker package. Of course, any car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If that price is acceptable to you, and you really like it, then go for it.

Well guys, i appriciate all the posts. Now i have a couple questions to throw at you. My first is have you looked at auto trader at what these go for? I keep seeing like 15-18K, thats why 11K seemed cheap to me. Also how can i go about taking this thing to a dealer to get checked out? I cant see him letting me barrow his car to have that done. Last of all, is there a website or anything to determine the market value for these pace cars? Thanks again for all your help, i hope to hear some more responses on these questions.

jasons93z 11-25-2003 12:28 PM

Ive never really liked the looks of the pace cars. Too many graphics and colors. It would make a nice collector car that you keep in a garage though, but if i bought one with that low mileage and great condition i would NOT use it as a daily driver.

Durbn4duke 11-25-2003 12:32 PM

Nope, just a summer car, i avg 3,500 miles a year on my camaro i have not, too bad i bought it with like 75K

Fastbird93 11-25-2003 01:03 PM

Maybe make an appointment at the dealer and have the current owner go with you???

IslandZ 11-25-2003 02:17 PM

They have these services where they come to the car and do all kinds of tests (compression, look for leaks, etc) some even analyze the oil to see what condition the car is in. Used one of those companies when I bought my car and they made the dealer change a bunch of parts (like 1 fan was not working etc)
Check your yellow pages.

i guess the price isnt bad for the mileage if its true
