400 or 500HP at the rear wheels, or at the flywheel - huge difference?

Good stock ported heads and matching cam will get you to 410wHP. You will need headers, larger injectors, large catback or duals, 52-58mm TB, cold air intake, reprogram. Figure about $3,500 min, and allow at least 50% additional funds for drivetrain and suspension upgrades.

Look at heads & cam offereings from Elliott Portworks and AI.

Fred hit it on the head then. A good heads/cam package plus bolt-ons on the stock bottom end will get you 400+. 450 will take some added displacement, larger cam, good flowing heads, ALL of the bolt-ons, and a great tune.

LE1s with a mild cam through a stalled auto probably won't put you over 400hp. You're going to need more substantial heads and a more aggressive grind. Have you looked at AI's stuff as well (www.advancedinduction.com)? They are doing it on a more routine basis, but at a marginally higher cost.

Don't forget headers (don't see them listed), 1.6 rockers, timing chain, gaskets, etc.

No they do not.

You're also going to need custom length pushrods as well.
