Hypertech's wire w/ laptop?

I have a hypertech programmer that came with my car. I was more interested in the wire than the unit itself because it appeared that i could use it to connect to my laptop. The wire is an odb connecter to male computer gameport connector. It comes with an extension cable that connects to the gameport connector and has another male gameport connector on the other end. My laptop has a male gameport connector so i figured i could esaily find a female female wire to get it connected.

So, what i am asking is once i get it hooked up to my laptops gameport, is there any software i can use? What connector does lt1 edit/ tunercat/ and any other s usually connect to? Do any of them support gameports?

Well, the cable itself will not do anything without the brains if you will which is the circuit board that syncs the inputs and outputs for the computer to read data to and from the PCM. The game port that you are talking about I am assuming is actually a 9 pin serial port right? You need to visit www.akmcables.com to get the details on the entire cable but what you have will save you money if you email Andrew with the details. From what I understand he uses those Hypertech cables to complete his cable and that package is $90 or so. Then for the software go to www.tunercat.com.

I think i could convert my hypertech cable to the computer for a lot cheaper than the guy at akm. I think hes takin advantage of people. It's a 15 pin port (usually plug joysticks into it). Can anyone tell me what type of port tunercat supports? I am indeed interested in tunercat but is there any freeware software of any kind i could use just for scanning purposes?

Maybe I wasnt clear in my last post. You cannot sync the computer to the PCM without a circuit board... running just a simple data wire will do absolutely nothing. There is a free scanner called free scan. Search for it.. I dunno exactly where the link is but if you look around its probably not too hard to find.

Ok that makes a lot more sense, i thought you meant brains as the computer myself. I did see the circuit thing before and was a little confused so thanks for clearing it up. I am really interested in the scan as of now so ill try and find it.
