How to tell if a LT1 is a 350 or 265

Some guy locally sells LT1's out of buicks and caprices they are all cast iron head motors i believe. Me and a friend were thinking of picking one up and he take the intake and i will take the short block and we will part out the rest of the motor. I only want the block though if it is a 350 so that way i can use the crank and rods on my new rebuild. Is there an easy way to tell if it is a 350 instead of a 265. Does anyone see any reason i couldn't use a 350 caprice block in my camaro? thanks.

Nope, they also made some "baby LT1's"

The best way to check is to look at the stamping on the block, rear deck, just behind the intake manifold, towards the driver's side. I don't recall the exact wording but 5.7L is in there if it's a 350.

I always thought that the "Baby LT1" or 265 was a V6?

Nope...the 265 baby LT1 is actually the same bore and stroke as a 265 small block was in the late 50's. Little bore, short stroke V8.
