how to set timing on CARBED LT1
hello
I am doing a carbed LT1 conversion on my 1985 RX7 :D and I will use the stock LT1 alternator ( no AC no PS ) + HEI distributor my questions are 1st choice: if I use stock crank hub and balancer how can I set the timing ? I am asking because the LT1s don't have timing marks 2nd choice: sbc style damper and pointer can I use SBC damper on stock LT1 crank ? which type should I use "Internal" or "Internal/External" damper ? any input appreciated thanks |
Re: how to set timing on CARBED LT1
Very crude way...find TDC while assembling engine or other means and mark balancer and point to 0. Determine circumference of balancer, divide by 360 and that is one degree. Start measuring and marking. I'm sure someone will have a more precise and proven method.

I timed heathers car by ear when we did her carbed LT-1 swap into her third gen. Of course, i've been doing this for years, so I really wouldn't suggest it...lol
