How to run low 13's
How to run low 13's
Hey guys
I am new to the LT1's. I am just wondering on what i need to do to get my camaro to low 13's maybe high 12's. I am ordering hooker cat-back, and since i live in fort wayne i am running up to Lingenfelter performance for there LT1 CAI. I want madz28 tuning but i am not sure yet. So any info would be helpful. and what will i be running after cai and hooker cat-back?
thx rob

With traction you could go 13.6-13.8 with the CAI and catback. I went 14.0@99.5mph 2.16 60' stock and then 13.80@103.7 2.17 60' with CAI, cat-back, TB bypass, and March Pullies (they dont do much but I got them as a present). Full exhaust, gear, tires, stall (if auto) or basically all the bolt-ons will net you low 13's/high 12's.
PS: I know my 60 ft's could have been better too.

WELCOME! Congrats on the car. To answer your ?'s to run low 13's high 12's you're headed down the right track. However, another huge performance bolt on is headers, GM made these and the intake tract restrictive from the factory to make the f-body lt1's less powerful than the corvette lt1. One of the most effective mods would be to yourself though. You didn't mention if the car was a stick or an auto. With a stick you must learn how to launch these cars without massive wheelspin but I would recommend getting some drag radials for the back tires to achieve the times you want. With an auto you can get shift kits to make your shifts more aggresive, and torque converters with a higher stall. With full exhaust and and Cold air intake from Lingenfelter and Drag radials You could potentially be running low to mid 13's. Lastly it never hurts to do a tuneup on your car(plugs, wires, filters) depending on your mileage. Hope this helps.
Are you an automatic or manual and what gears do you have?
If automatic than you can run my time in sig with your mods. I have 2.73 gears and with cai and a cutout only I ran the time in sig. Since then I have added drag radials, madz28 tuning, 160 thermostat, tb bypass, manual fan switch, airfoil......and I am gonna remove some more weight. I think I should be in the 13.5-13.7 range, but I need to get to the track and find out.
To reach low 13's, high 12's on an auto I would say, ......CAI, full exhaust (longtubes), 3.73 gears, Drag radials or slicks, 2800-3200 stall torque converter, tune....that should get you high 12's maybe low 13's. Be very careful though, because the rear ends are very weak on these cars and with the above listed mods the rearend could give out on any launch.
So far my thoughts on the madz28 tune are very positive (just installed it today actually) It runs smoother and generally feels stronger and seems to shift much better.
Oh and as far as far as weight removal I would remove spare tire and jack for sure, back seats if you wanna, pass. seat for race day only, front sway bar (may be dangerous for everyday driving), air and egr eqipment (dont weigh much but will clean up your engine compartment).....and the list continues, it just depends on how far ya wanna go........btw I did all the weight stuff above except for sway bar, but I'm taking it off this week.
Lemme know if you have any questions and I'll try and answer them or I'll find someone who knows it.
