How to remove the crank hub?

How to remove the crank hub?

I have a 93 z28 and i'm replacing the crank seal. i'm having a hard time getting the harmonic balancer hub off. can anyone give me any tips?

It has been a long time but I believe that you have to use a puller to get that off.

Just be sure to remove the bolt that secures the hub to the crank as well as the washer that fits between the bolt and the hub. Failure to remove those items seems to be a serious stumbling block for a lot of people. I guarantee you that you will not be able to pull the hub off over the bolt and washer no matter how good your puller may be.

You stated you're replacing the crank seal. The most common leak on the timing cover area is the water pump drive seal. Double check that it isn't your issue.

One tip; make sure to clean out the crank bolt hole before reinstalling.
Trace the threads with a tap if you have one.

You can borrow a removal/install kit from most auto parts store with a $30-80 deposit (100% refunded)
I've done it do many times, I just went ahead and bought the toolkit LOL
