How to prevent from blowing head gaskets????
Hey everyone, i get my 94 z28 camaro back tomorrow, it was in the shop getting head gaskets cuz mine were blown. from the 2 weeks that i drove the car i never over heated it? So how did the head gaskets get blown??? Could they have just worn out or something? the car has 155 thousand miles. So for future care how could i prevent the gaskets from blowing? Thanks

It doesn't nec need to overheat to blow the head gasket, the gasket can just fail. The iron motor block and the aluminum heads don't help either since they are different metals. Also the camaro has a pretty high compression ratio, which may be even a bit higher now if you had your heads re-plained for flatness. These cars also tend to run hot anyway.
No guarantee on never blowing a head gasket again, just make sure head and block are plained, get decent head gaskets, make sure its put together right, and don't overheat.

The general cause for a gasket/coolant related failure of any kind on a high mileage engine is lack of cooling system maintenance, people very often overlook this. If you look in the owners manual I bet it says to change the coolant every 30,000 miles...but it is never done.
My 1996 Honda Accord HAS had this done, every 30,000 mile service has been done(by me) it has 190,000 miles, no coolant related gasket failures of any kind.
