Is it actually overheating or just getting hotter?

If it's not overheating this is fairly normal. To get the constant cooling effect with the 160 stat you need to get your PCM reprogrammed to turn the fans on at a lower temperature. Madz28.com should be able to do this for you. Otherwise you will only see the benefit of the stat during highway driving.

Sicne you saw you have it programmed you may have air in your system. Look at the hoses which come from the waterpump. You will see two screws which you can turn to release the pockets of air which can be caught in the system. Check your cars manual for instuctions in remove the air or "bleeding" the air out of your cooling system.

WELL i have a programmer. ANd in the past (SINCE COUPLE DAYS AGO) i program the computer for the fans to come on at 160 degrees. ANd its been doing that no problem. I stil lhave the same setting on it right now. now when I got home. I opened the hood. ANd turn the car off and you can here the bioling inthe radiator hoses. So im thinking FLUSH TIME with some DEXCOOL COOLANT> what you think. My Fans have bee getting alot of work.
(HEY YOU LIVE IN NOR CAL?? where abouts. i went to SAN JOSE STATE)

I'm located in Concord. Actually drove up to Milpitas yesterday to drop a Kmember off to a customer of mine.

Sounds like air is caught in your system. I'm 99% sure of that. Follow these instuctions for proper draining and filling.

Also, no need to get Dexcool. Any coolant will do.

BTW, I don't think you need to flush your radiator.

Gunk is not good but I still don't think that's your problem. If it's actually not overheating I think your programming didn't work. If you program the fans to come on at 160 than it shouldn't go much over that. I say bleed the air out again, make sure the fans are properly programmed to come on at 160, double check and make sure your secondary fan is turning on. Failing all that you may need a flush.

The first thing I would try is a new radiator cap. I would also stick with the green coolant.

Hey guys check this out.
Last night im driving. MY engine started smoking. And there is a Very wired smell coming inside the car. Kinda of smells like a burned coolant. Now I was drivig and my TEMP Gage went right off the Dash Board. ANd i stopped the car and Under the GLove COmpartment on the passenger side. THere this somthing leaking. Its a Beige color just soaking my carpet underneath. smells bad. So looks like my radiator needs to be flushed. Any other ideas on what it could be?

Probably your gunked up heater core has started leaking because of the pressure with the high temp. Hopefully, you did not blow head gaskets and warp the heads. You really need to pay more attention to your gauge and get your problem fixed. Sounds like your cooling system has been neglected.

Hey SHoe so what do you suggest I do? Do I do the flush and what else? oh and another thing too. YOu had talked about the heads well for some reason not all the time but every now and then it boggs little bit from the start. Kinda like its not getting fuel. BUt as soon as I jump on it. ITs huals ***. thanks

If your head gaskets are going south then it will be sluggush and hard to start due to the water build up in the cylinders. I'm 100%sure its your heater core. I think your heater core was going south from the get-go and that it was restricting water flow. As far as the smoke out the tail pipe. That almost definitely confirms that your head gaskets are shot. If you let your car sit at an idle and look underneath by the muffler you will probably see a small drip of coolant. Definitely sounds like this car's coolant system was neglected. If you noticed that the temps were shooting up like crazy then you should have taken it a bit more seriously from the start, it may have saved you some dough.....

By-the-way, why didn't you flush it when you did the thermostat? From the way it sounds you didn't know when the last time it was flushed was. Personally whenever I buy a new vehicle, I flush ALL fluids and then start from there, its best to know just how much abuse this stuff has on it. Good Luck.....
