How much power gained (mail order to dyno tuned)?
How much power gained (mail order to dyno tuned)?
I was wanting to hear from people about how much power they gained from having a mail order tune and then getting a dyno tune? so how much extra power was gained from the dyno tune over the previous mail order tune. Thanks guys
Re: How much power gained (mail order to dyno tuned)?
That's a toss up, if your mail order tune happen to hit it right you wouldn't gain much at all. But if your mail order tune was way off and you didn't know it, you could gain 10-20 HP.

I'd PM madwolf and PCMforless and ask them what they have seen and heard from their customers. I doubt either one would feed you a line of crap and say there is nothing gained on the dyno over their tunes. Although it depends on your mods too, stock engines I dont think you'll see leaps and bounds on a dyno tune, but with heavy modded motors it might be worth while.

WOT tuning is easy. Simple as that. It boggles my mind how much money people throw down for WOT dyno tuning. Ive seen people pay upwards of 500+ for WOT dyno tuning only.
If they do partial throttle tuning, which some Dyno tuning does, then it is usually worth it.
But if all they do is WOT tuning, then SAVE YOUR MONEY. You can do the mail order tune through Ion, send him the dyno sheet and he can adjust the AFR in the tune and send it back. It makes me sick how some people waste their money on a dyno tune at some rip off shops where they run 3 dynos and spend 10 mins in the tune (there is a table that GM uses that adjusts AFR in a set percentage vs RPM @ WOT) and sits on their *** for the next 2 hours @ 75/hr. Its a very simple trial and error.

Re: How much power gained (mail order to dyno tuned)?
I have seen guys using reputable tuners report as much as a 40hp gain on a stockish setup to built strokers only gaining single digits and everything in between. A lot of it depends on how accurate the info you fed the tuner is and how well the car is tuned up, if your fuel pressure is weak due to a pump or regulator begining to go then the tuner can't nail AFR very well from a distance, but if your happens to put out exactly what they tune for and has the same pressure curve(changes based on vaccum) then he can get very close first time out. More often than not you will probably gain 10-20hp, if you gain more great, if less then you know you picked the right mailorder tuner because he did a damn good job.
Re: How much power gained (mail order to dyno tuned)?
I saw about a 5 rwhp gain from mail order to dyno. I also saw a SC car gain
90 rwhp the same day, so it depends. The guys that do mail order here on
the board have lots tunes that are well dialed in for typical setups. Send them
an email and ask some questions.
