Bores the same .030, you just ahve to clearance for the bigger crank on the 383. The 355 uses stock crank stroke while the 383 uses the 3.75. To many factors on power and cost.

Mike,
As Neil said, you can bore .030 oversize to get 355 from a 350. You change pistons, rings, pins for the approximately 1.5% more displacement. If you don't change much else, you are looking at a few % increase in power. Hardly worth it unless the engine needs a rebuild.

To get to 383 you need to bore the .030 plus use a different crank with a longer stroke. This involves a lot more work and more $, but you get about 9.4% more displacement (vs. 1.5% for the 355). You'll get more peak torque (about 19% maybe?), but not a lot more hp UNLESS you improve the heads' flow and the valvetrain and the exhaust.

Of course if you improve the heads, exhaust and cam, the 355 will give you lots more power, too. The whole system needs to work together.

Power costs money. The amount of money you are willing to spend is basically what determines how much power/torque you'll get.

Another option would be to improve the exhaust system then optimize the valvetrain for the rpm range you plan to use. You could see substantial peak gains and high gains in the upper rpm range without going inside the engine. However, you'd neet to gear the car to run in that higher rpm range, and you should expect a significantly shorter lifetime on the engine if you use it's newfound power.

There is no free lunch!
