How many of you OBD1 guys have hit 7k?

Eeeeeek. I just did it a few min ago screwing around on the highway powershifting gears. My 3-4 shift revved a little too fast and POP, everything died. Luckily i know a guy who has done it before so knew that i had to get pulled over (no power brakes, no power steering etc) and key off to reset the computer.

However, back of my head i thought i may had gotten a rod bolt or piston and sent pieces through my motor. Sounded good on startup, but tomorrow im going to go over EVERY thing carefully to make sure all is well. Not good

Stock bottom end, and 7k rpms, cooooool

I wouldnt worry too much, just dont make it a habit:p

I've hit 7k numerous times on accident without problems..:)

Ya i think it will be ok, just scared me. I hate the factory rev limiters. THey cut fuel = horrible for engine. I have msd box, but i dont have a 6900 pill for it. Someone want to give me one? Ill pay shipping ;)

I THINK I hit 7,000 RPM once. Light was red, and cross traffic had the green, then the yellow. Then their light turned red and someone ran it and turned left and stayed in my lane. I had to accelerate and pass the guy on my left to avoid an accident and I wound up hitting 7k in first. No issues with the engine from that incident, and that was about 8 months ago.

Like I told ya, 7300 on my blueprinted bottom end with stock components. That day at the track it was shifting out at 6900 :)

When I first got my Z and was still learning the car...I decided to test it out...You know the old fashioned way... I drove up on a group of girls and reved her up to get their attention. I used to own an import so I was used to Redlinning allot. But as soon as I got in the Red *POW!* I destroyed the Cat...exhaust system had a horrible rasp ever since. Didn't realize how bad it was till I did my headers and saw what was left of everything after driving the car like that for 15K plus miles.

Id like to know how you managed 7300 with obd1. ;) Once you hit 7k, you crash the computer and the car is DONE. Until you key off and reset.

Hell, I dunno, call Tracey and ask him :D BTW, those sprints to 7 grand result in busted lifters. Just watch out for a slow developing miss, if not, everything should be fine. I got mine apart for this weekend, and I exploded a lifter again. Thats what resulted in my broken spring :(

I've hit my 6,900 rev limiter quite a few times. Stock bottom end still kicking. :D

I've bounced off my 6900 rev limiter several times before. I also powershifted from 2nd back into 1st (missed 3rd) at the track once. The strange thing was, it went waaay over 7000rpm but didn't die. I simply threw it into 3rd gear and kept on going. I guess I was lucky.

Maybe the ECM wasnt fastest enough to even realize what happened?

Anyways, mine looks good. No knock counts, no oil in antifreeze or vice versa, and good oil pressure still. Im relieved to say the least. Mines regularly been to 6800, but as RPMs increase its hell to pay on the motor.
