I want to get the Z out to the track this weekend to get an idea of where I'm at but am a little worried about the break in period after a heads/cam install. When can I get on her? I already changed the oil after the first start-up and have maybe 100 miles on the new set-up?

 

I would say about 250-300 miles, since you did mess with the internals...Give it some break in time, then after that, drop the oil, and then "really" break it in.....at the track!!

 

i gave mine 50 miles changed the oil and then went all out on it... i did that probably 40,000 miles ago and its still running

 

There is no need to break it in a hyd. cam. Just change the oil shortly after first start up, like you did. Then again after a couple hundred miles, and then go for it. Your main concern is to get all the oil out that may have collected particals and dirt while the engine was open.

Yeah I did the oil change then another about 150 miles later then I beat the crap out of it all of that was at 90000 now I have 98000 and still going strong

 

Yep, no break-in... wail on it
