How hard is it to replace my shocks?

How hard would it be to replace my shocks? And what tools would I need?
I ran it off in a ditch awhile back when it was raining and now I am getting a horrible screeching sound when I hit bumps or drive over speed bumps etc.. It is coming from the left front.

Do you think all I need is shocks.

Car is a 93Z28. 104,000 miles :)

Thanks
Joe

hi there. It isn't that hard at all, but you will need to take your time. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined you should be able to accomplish it. You will need a spring compressor. You should be able to rent (or buy one) from your local autozone. here's a link that helped me out a bunch.

When i lowered my first camaro i used c-clamps for spring compressors. I do not recomend this, it was pretty scary. Now i just take the whole assembly to a shop and have them compressor the spring take the strut apart. They will usually only charge you like $20 and and its just a lot easier than messing with it.

Its not that tough to get the strut out though. You can do it with basic tools. will probably have to go to sears or something and get a torx bit for the upper shock mount bolts. i think its a size 50 or something.

You'll need some tools too. Not only the compressor. ;) j/k. Yeah but it aint that bad. the rears change out in about 10 minutes a piece. The front on the other hand is another story.

Hey thats a pretty good link.

I dont mean to steal the thread. But i was also thinking about lowering my car. Not too much. How much do you think i should lower it? I was planning on replacing the springs so i thought why not just get some lowering struts. ;)
