how to get the catalytic converter off?

I have a 93 Z28 with AS&M headers, SLP loudmouth, and stock catalytic. I want to get rid of the cat. I had the car up in the air trying to unbolt the cat from the y-pipe but could not get to the 2 upper bolts at all. I have no idea how the guy that did my headers tightened these bolts! Is there a certain way to get to these?

Any tips?

I'm guessing you can't get to it with a wrench? What about a socket with a lot of extentions on it? Any way to get to it that way?

well what I want to try to do is gut the cat and slide a piece of pipe through it, effectively making it an off road pipe. However, if a cop by some chance got his head under there and looked, it would appear to still have the cat. Another option is to just weld in a piece of pipe, then take the outer shell off the cat and weld it on the pipe for the same effect.
