How do you remove the drivers side headers?
Ok, I just finished removing the down pipe and catalytic converter and snapped 2 bolts on the drivers side exhaust headers.
What i am wondering is how do you remove the drivers side headers? How many bolts are there? What is the best way to remove the headers? Thanks |
There's 6 bolts total... I don't know what you're gonna do about the broken bolts though.
|
Well couldnt i just pull the headers and then drill the broken bolt studs out and rethread some new ones?
Thanks |
I guess you could give it a try if nothing else :)
I've tried doing it once on a small 1 cylinder 4-stroke and it was a pain in the ass. |
ok, i removed the exhaust header and now i just have to remove the bolts that were inside of the exhaust header and thread some new ones.
I wasnt talking about the bolts inside of the block, i was refering to the bolts inside of the exhaust header that connects the header to the y-pipe. So basically all i have to do is remove the old bolts and thread some new ones in....But how do i do this? Will i have to drill the old ones out and tap some new ones? Thanks |
Are you talking about the Exhaust Manifolds? Because exhaust manifolds and headers are different.....to me anyways! :D Anyways i wouldn't even worry about the bolts on the exhaust unless you are planning to put it back on....Are you installing headers?
|
Ohh, I thought you meant you broke the bolt off in the head.
|
Why are you removing the exhaust?
|
I am removing the exhaust manifolds because i broke off the bolts when i was trying to remove the y-pipe. All of my bolts are so rusted that it would be impossible to remove them without breaking them.
So now i am removing the exhaust manifolds to replace the bolts with some nice stainless steel ones. so tomorow i will be taking on the passenger side exhaust manifold... Any suggestions? Man...what a pain in the A$$ to try and fix one little bolt when you end up removing every part of the exhaust. Thanks |
Just use a torch to heat up the manifold around the stud then turn the broken stud out with vice grips.
