How did I break this

http://www.hpphoto.com/servlet/LinkP...7dd368e0&size=

Its a mcloed street disk thats been in the car for about a month.

What caused this, it was broken in correctly and i never shift past 5500 rpm. I had an LT4 pressure plate with it.

Woah.

I'd call McLeod and see if they'll help you out.

Can't help you with a reason for breaking though. Sorry.

That's crazy that the retainer plate would crack like that. But the eyebrows broke right off. I would imagine it was pressure cracks that orginated from the inside of the spring window. You can tell that the cracks started from the outside and propagated outwards due to the nature of the fracture. It also looks like you have some pressure cracks starting from the rivets between the friction material and the retainer plate, you can see them in the lower left hand area of the picture (with the hub as the center of the clock, look to about 8 o clock). It could be due to McLeod's process (improper heat treat or riveting too hard) or it could be due to your driving. How much hp/tq do you honestly think you are transmitting? Also, what stresses the springs is hard launching and hard downshifting. I would definitely call McLeod and tell them what I told you and just see what they say. HTH

The only mods i have are the mods in my sig, so im not making much power. I did miss a gear at the track, hit 1st instead of third, so thats probably what did it.

I am having trouble finding my reciept, as soon as i find it im going to call mcleod.

As new as you say it is, I would think that they would warranty it.

You just got unlucky & got a disk with a stress risers in it prolly developing at the rivet area which with time just broke off at the concentrated area.

Yeah, the guy i spoke with at mcleod said it looked like a manufacturing defect, like it was pinched to tight when it was riveted or somethign along those lines.

Hopefully ill have the new disk and get it installed by thursday evening.
