How to CC heads etc.

Is there a cheap relatively easy way to do this without buying a kit? I need to cc my heads and pistons to make sure my dcr is in line and am wondering if it would be cheaper just to take it to a machine shop?

Any info on how to do it would be appreciated.

Yeah, but how will I know when it is completely full? Wouldn't I need to cover the top to prevent surface tension? I thought about using windshield fluid because of the alcohol but as far as covering the top to make sure it is completely full while still adding? I guess I could get a clear piece of plexiglass and drill a hole in the middle? Any other thoughts?

That's pretty much what a "CC kit" is.
Hope this helps http://www.merkurxr4ti.com/chambervolume.html
