How can you tell which head gasket is leaking?

Since the end of last summer Im almost positive my car has a head gasket leak. It seemed to start shortly after doing the hotcam kit install. Is there anyway that this could have caused it? The car never came close to over heating. Anyhow, There is moisture in the breather tube after I drive, and often there is a watery/yellow sludge/slime that will build up inside there too. This almost has to be a headgasket leak correct? Well how do I know which side it is? I've pulled plugs, and a couple on the passenger side looked kind of corroded and wierd, but not to bad either. Although the driver side did look a bit better. Is it safe to say the passenger side is the culpret? Thanks

Good ol' WD-40

To see which side is the culprit, spray some WD-40 near each head gasket while the car is idling. Do it slowly and thoroughly, and do one head at a time. If you hear your motor rev, then you've found your problem. This method is a great way to find vaccuum leaks, too. Hope this helps.

Hey man, my buddy has a camaro with hotcam that we installed and the same thing happend to him. We narrowed it down to intake manifold leak or oil pan/timing cover leak. He sprays nitrous to it so im pretty sure its not the head gasket. Hope this helps.

You get two gaskets in the set so you might as well do them both. You will already be there and it won't be a lot more to do both sides. Also if one has failed the other one might be on the way so be safe and do both of them. JMHO Matt

Im confused as to how an intake leak or timing cover leak could cause coolant or moisture to get into the oil, considering the lt1 is a dry intake.

A compression check it will help verify a popped head gasket.

Go to Pepboys and tell them you need a pressure check for your heads and they can tell you which one is bad.
