Hotcam: To keep, or to cc306??

Here's the deal. I have (not yet installed), Hooker LT's, SLP CAI, LT4 hotcam kit, true duals, soon to be pcmforless programming

I have now decided to do head work also, and I don't need to pass emissions anymore (don't ask) so I was thinking of switching to cc306 instead.

Do you guys think it would be worth it? and what springs, rockers, retainers, rods, etc. do you recommend if so.

I know i am not going to want to switch to a bigger cam after this one is already installed, so I thought now would be a better time to go bigger. Does anyone wish they went with a bigger cam like the cc306 from the start??

Thanks a lot!!

I had the hot cam,but got woop-assed by a Zo6!,our 1/4mile times were very close to eah other(my 12.6 vs his 12.5)but the mph(my 112vs 115mph) told me I needed more horsepower,its a never ending game!

I would go bigger as the majority of the people who get baby cams usually want to go bigger once they see there mph and et's. I would look at the 306 cam or some of the xe grinds as well. Just be forewarned that any big cam is goin to need more than a mail in tune, dont get me wrong, pcm4less is aswome but to get all the power out the cam it need to be dyno tuned. The springs I would recomend are any double coil valve spring as you will be pushing the 600 lift mark with 1.6rr.

The CC306 is a big cam. If you are going to get heads. go ahead and get the cam. You would have wish you did if you did'nt.

No doubt, Joe94z is right. You said you were going to do the heads, so get the 306!

I may run stock heads for a while but that’s b/c I'm on a tight budget for future plans and I know if I buy anything smaller I will regret it later on. So I'm going 306 and when I get my stroker assembly I'll do the heads then.

Think ahead, don’t sit there scratching your head after you bought a weenie hot cam. Go bigger, everyone else is!

Also consider drivability... No one has even mentioned that yet.. I dont think you drive at 6600 rpm on the street too often...

Thumbs up

If you don't have emissions to worry about then I would go bigger. Especially if the car isn't a daily driver. Infact in the summer of '04 I might go bigger on my cam as well. That is when my next emission test is. But then again I am running real well with my little cam....

I wish I had gone with a larger cam first. I started out by installing a hotcam and was kinda disappointed, now I have a 306 and am very happy.

Dude, if i can drive at 6600 RPM, i am going to drive at 6600 RPM. No but really, i don't care about daily drivability. I am a go big or go home kinda guy, and that is half the reason i feel like a pansy after getting the hotcam.

Haha, OK, if anyone wants a brand new hotcam, let me know. I will post in the For Sale section shortly. Thanks a lot for all your replies!

What would you guys use on a 383 lt1, with head work and 3.73:1 gears, if driveability and emissions were a problem?

I have a 383 w/ the 306 and 3.42 gears (M6) and it is great for a daily driver, no complaints. I don't know about emissions however.

So, what are you going to do about emissions since you live in cali. I would like to know your thoughts about this?

My smog time is coming up so I'll probably install the 306 after I smog it. Then I'll have two years of driving and two years of trying to make it pass.
